I like to think I’m pretty good at giving stretches to my clients for self-care. I’m always stressing how important it is to stretch. The problem is not everyone (myself included) actually takes the time to stretch. You’d be surprised how much better your body feels when you consistently stretch.
Stretching Benefits:
- Increases flexibility
- Increases range of motion
- Increases blood flow to your muscles
- Improves posture
- Helps to heal and prevent back pain
- Is great for stress relief
- Can calm your mind
These are just a few of the benefits of stretching. Check out my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/KatGomez.LCMT/?ref=bookmarks for weekly stretches.
The one stretch I do love and do on a regular basis is using a foam roller. It’s great to do at the end of the day especially if you come home with a tense neck, tight shoulders and a stiff back.
For those of you sitting hunched over a keyboard all day, it’s important to realign your spine and stretch the muscles of your upper body (primarily your neck, chest and shoulders)
If you don’t have a foam roller, you can roll up a towel or fold a pillow in half length-wise but I really recommend buying one.
Lie down on the foam roller with your feet flat on the floor.
Open your arms out to the side with your palms facing up and allow the pectoral muscles to open and stretch. This should feel really good. Hold the stretch for 5-10 breaths.
Happy stretching!!
